All done with After Effects with Psunami plugin (thanks Guilherme) Shine, Particular and some more magic.

Rough test for look and concept for an underwater ocean look, future to be developed in 3D.

Project made for CgSociety’s Allan Mckay Holywood VFX workshop. For the Backplate photo i used a digital panorama i had taken before, check it out here.

It’s meant to be an exercise, not a 100% finished and revised work. There are a few changes i could make and revise, but i dont have time right now. The time involved was approximately two weeks

Bond…Old Bond – CGSociety Secret Agent Challenge

This is a personal work, done for CGSociety’s Secret Agent Challenge. The topic is pretty obvious – i had to come up with something to do with secret agents, and spies!
My idea was to imagine a James Bond character in old age, demented in a sanatorium, and always with some secret plan in his agenda… This time? Take out the evil head nurse when the timing is perfect.
Poor Bond…Still living the good old days.

Everything is CGI. All was modeled, textured, lighted and rendered in 3D. I’ve been able to render some extra layers such as the hairs, so i could control better in post-production later.

I have won Best Sculpture Award, and got some really cool prizes, so i will definitely continue to participate.

Salsa Jeans – "Wonder"

Another work for jeans advertising. I was asked by the photographer to remove the white background. I suggested some concrete wall, urban style. I made the concrete wall in 3D, and then composited the original photo with the render, and edited the photo as needed – modifying body parts, shapes, colors, etc until the desired look was achieved. Check the before/after comparison.

Salsa Jeans – ONE

Another work for jeans advertising. This time the photographer had some sets of photographs taken of the models in front of a mirror, one at a time. With those i would then make masks and use them in an environment. This is the final environment, a closet, or dressing room. It’s all in 3D, and along with the final rendering, i made the final composition, editing a lot the original photos. Below you can see one of the original photos as well as some other tests for the environment.

In the shade, we all go through changes… My wife Catarina was testing a new camera and took some photos while i was working. I then picked this one and played a bit with it in Photoshop, to get this undead look. I’ve finally added the effect of some venetian blinds to enhance the shady look.

Shiny Days

This photo of my wife Catarina express an happy feeling, associated with the return of sunny, shiny bright days. The color, tones and brightness in the face against the somewhat desaturated blue sky in the back creates the bridge between the cold and hotter days.

Santa Cruz – Formosa Beach

Another panorama taken in the same place as many in this photoblog – Santa Cruz. This one was very hard to do, because of the hard changes in exposure, so trying to maintain a balance between dark and bright areas was critical. Hopefully i will have a better camera in time, with higher specifications to allow me to produce better shots.

Catarina by the sea of Santa Cruz

We spent a very nice day in Santa Cruz, a small seaside village, near Óbidos. It’s a beautiful place. This panorama was taken with several photos that i merged together. The most difficult part is to be able to keep the details of moving objects, such as the waves, without the mixing being to noticeable. I like the duality on cool, non saturated look in the water against the two colored parts, the rock and my wife. The compostition really helps our eyes to get caught in the immense rock, and then drift away to check all little details, like the water splashes, the waves, etc.

Santa Cruz Tip

I’ve climbed to the very tip of the rocks in Santa Cruz beach so i could take a 360º horizontal panorama. I love the colors in this one, the lighting is great, and i just did a simple contrast correction in post, and there you have it.
