Abandoned Sofa

Taken in an abandoned water mill, the remains of some weird furniture set, a sofa, standing in the middle of nowhere… I wouldn’t put a single finger in it, and i pity whoever used it for what reason. Nevertheless, who knows, maybe this lonely couch was the only company to someone even lonelier…

I’ve taken 3 photos which i merged together as a panorama. Then i used Photoshop to change a lot the colors, lighting, mood and focus points to give it a touch of enlightenment vs darkness feeling, with the sofa acting as a hero in this mix. Below you can see the original stitched panorama before any editing.

360º Room Panorama

Heres a nice 360º horizontal panorama from my very own working space. Nice open space, good to clear our thoughts and let ideas flow. I’ve done this for using it as a background and lighting source for 3D images, shot using different exposures and multiple shots, merged together and color graded, resulting in a final HDR panorama, ready to use.

Lisbon Bridge at night

Panorama created from several photos taken from my cell phone, Sony Ericson K800i. The quality is rather lousy, and the focus even worse, but i still like the result. What we see here is Lisbon in the back, the brigde in the right and a factory in the left side. The most lighted places, that produce higher reflexes in the water are the bridge and soccer club ”Belenenses” stadium.

Santa Cruz Mirante Restaurant

I’ve taken this panorama of the restaurant in Santa Cruz beach. The straight architectural lines merge perfectly in the natural environment, and shooting in B&W helped to define a better contrast between forms.

I can’t say if the food is good or not, not even a cup of coffee i took…but i’m pretty sure that if you look for a nice fresh fish, this will probably be a good place to eat.

Big, Happy Family!

Wow, this is some crazy mambojambo cloning madness!! No, we dont have multiple twins neither, eheh

What’s going on here is that i’ve used the same technique as i do with the panorama creation. I take multiple shots from the same location, but in each photo i move the tripod a bit to the side, set the timer, and go back to place and change position. Then its a hard task in Photoshop to make all the image seem seamless, with some harder tasks as masking some bodies in front or in the back of another set.

In the end, we get a nice panoramic view of a single scenario, with multiple people in it.

I can say that buying a tripod was a great investment, since from there i started making some panoramas, and opens new possibilities and techniques impossible before.

Vila Rubra

Vila Rubra is a large scale architectural project in Angola. The client wanted to produce a corporate video to show the overall development plan of the project.
The idea was to show everything, from blueprints, plans, drawings, and real footage as if they were in a book, with pages flipping constantly.

I created everything in CGI. All the models, streets, blueprints, vegetation systems, etc are 3D. The book is also 3D, and in the end i had to make a complex post-production system where i would use previously rendered animations as textures in the 3D turning pages, and having to make camera matches to have shot consistency.
For the trees, i’ve developed a random creation and placement system, where i modeled some specific type of tree, and then the system would multiply and change each tree to make it unique.

It was an extremely tiring project in terms of managing everything and making sure all worked out well together. It involved 3D creation, post-production and a lot of testing and hair pulling, and i’m glad it came out quite nicely in the end.

Água das Pedras 2009 Online Calendar

Project made for an online calendar campaign for ”Água das Pedras”, a world known natural carbonated mineral water. Sérgio Matos took all the photos that i used on each layer in Photoshop. Mcdonalds Mc Sorriso

This is a tv advertising for a Mcdonalds campaign, called ”Mc Sorriso” (McSmile). The campaign objective was to collect funds to build a house for children in hospital treatment, and they’re families.
My work here involves the intro shot, inside the kid’s room. It’s all CGI, no real footage has been used. It’s all 3D modeling, texturing, lighting and rendering.

I’ve taken this photo in my great grandmother’s home in Matagoza, a very small village in the center of Portugal. It’s a view from the window to the balcony and the hills in the back. It was raining so that made very nice reflections in the ground, only broken by the little pebbles laying.
